                                              JOB POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Applications are being accepted at the City of Spring Valley Village for the position of Assistant Utility and Street Supervisor

 

JOB TITLE:       Assistant Utility and Street Supervisor

 

SALARY:          Qualifications will determine salary

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Non-Supervisory Position.  Under general supervision, able to perform a combination of unskilled,  semi-skilled, and skilled tasks related to the operations and maintenance of City facilities including, but not limited to, streets, bridges, parks, water and sewer lines, water meters, lift stations, water plants, sewage plants, buildings, grounds, right-of-ways, and easements.  The position requires ability to be available for 24 hour on-call services.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

 

C          Assists in the operation and maintenance of City=s facilities

C          Operate small trucks, tractors, mowers, yard equipment, chain saws, and other types of light equipment

C          Operate or be capable of learning operation of backhoe/loader, sewer line cleaning equipment, and crack sealing machine

C          Assist in maintaining and make minor repairs and adjustments to a variety of machines, pumps, motors, and equipment

C          Assist in installing and maintaining water and sewer pipelines, facilities and appurtenances

C          Be familiar with and capable of operating and/or assisting in the operation and maintenance of public water treatment and distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, lift stations, and other public utility operations

C          Operate various pumps and motors, take water samples and perform routing standardized water quality tests, such as Free Chlorine Residual, Total Chlorine Residual and pH

C          Be familiar with and competent in the storage, handling, use, application and safety of water and wastewater treatment, and maintenance chemicals

C          Assist in maintaining service records, maintenance records, standardized tests results, and operational records

C          Read maps, locate water and sewer lines, determine location of leaks or stoppages, clean lines to remove stoppage, and make repairs to water and sewer lines, service lines, service connections, meters, manholes, and life stations

C          Assist in maintaining and repairing roads, streets, and other public works facilities

C          Assist in maintaining and repairing public buildings

C          Assist in installing, replacing, maintaining, and painting of traffic control devices

C          Assist in installing, replacing, maintaining, and repairing storm sewer pipes, conduit, ditches, catch basins, inlets, manholes, and other storm water related appurtenances

C          Assist in general maintenance, operation, construction, repair, replacement and related tasks, as assigned, and to perform other duties as may be required

 


 

PERFORMANCE QUALIFICATIONS:

 

C          Possess a High School Diploma or its equivalent, a valid Texas Drivers License, and be capable of obtaining a minimum of a Class AC@ Water Operators License within one (1) year of employment

C          Ability to take and follow verbal instructions and directions (in English), and to follow and understand detailed written policies, procedures and instructions (in English)

C          Ability to provide legal documentation as may be required by Labor Laws, Employment Acts or other official rules, regulations, policies, procedures, laws or mandates as they would apply to the employment of personnel by a Political Entity, such as the City

C          Ability to pass a pre-employment, NON-DOT, Drug Screen and Physical Medical Examination by a licensed professional practitioner, so selected by the City

C          Have experience in the proper operation and maintenance of backhoes, small trucks, tractors, crack sealing machine, and other similar equipment or posses and be able to demonstrate the ability to learn these trades

C          Proficiency in the methods and procedures used in the operation, maintenance, installation and repair of water and wastewater systems, streets and bridges, parks and recreational areas, and other types of City facilities, along with the ability to read blueprints

C          Ability to work courteously with others, maintain good relations with personnel, citizens, staff, City Leaders, contractors, other departments, and consultants

C          Ability to read, write and maintain accurate and legible records (in English) where required

C          Ability to perform tasks on own initiative

C          Ability to interpret and apply established rules and regulations, policies and procedures

C          Ability to physically perform the tasks assigned requiring modest to strenuous physical effort, sometimes in strained positions, in a safe, efficient, and expeditious manner

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:

 

High school diploma or equivalent, plus three years of experience in water/sewer and street maintenance, construction or repair.  Class AC@ water operators license and a valid Texas driver's license is required.
